# How to Divide Monomial by a Non Zero Constant?

TopPolynomials are classified as monomials, binomials and trinomials. Any polynomial which has one term is called a monomial. Thus we say that 5x, 6y, 4z2 etc. are all the monomials as they have only one term. We must remember that all mathematical operations namely addition, subtraction, division and multiplication can be performed on monomials. Let us learn how to divide monomial by a non zero constant.

In order to perform the operation of division by any constant term, which is non zero, we must remember following facts:
1. In case divisor is 1, then value of monomial remains same. Example if we divide 3x2 by 1, then quotient is dividend itself i.e. 3x2.

2. Let us take into consideration another situation, when divisor is non zero. Thus we say that we will divide the constant coefficient of numerator with denominator and thus we will get quotient. So if we write number 4x2 / 2, then we simply need to divide 4 by 2, giving quotient as 2, thus result of 4x2 / 2 is 4x2.

3. On other hand if we come across divisor which is not the factor of constant term of dividend, then result can be written as follows: In order to divide 13x3 by 4, we observe that divisor is 4 and dividend is 13x3, so we will observe that constant 13 is not divisible by 3, so we write result as follows: 13x3/4.
