How to Estimate Quotients?

TopTerm quotient is used in the division. When we divide a number by another number then quotient is generated. In division there are four terms which are frequently used. These four terms are dividend, divisor, remainder and quotient. Let us see how to estimate quotients.
Basically dividend is the larger number of two Numbers; this is the number which is to be divided. Divisor is the smaller number of the two; this is the number which divides the other number. Quotient is the answer to the division problem. Remainder is the number which is smaller than divisor.
Let us see now how we can estimate quotients:
Step 1: We need two numbers first. One is dividend and second is divisor. Here dividend is always larger than divisor number. This makes easier to divide a number by other number.
Step 2: We check the compatibility of dividend and divisor. We start from very first digit. We underline it. We check the compatibility of each number.
Step 3: Now assume we have to divide 124 by 4.
Step 4: We will check first digit 1; we cannot divide 1 by 4 so we will underline 12. We have to divide 12 by 4 now. We get 3 as quotient.
Step 5: Now we will subtract 12 from 12. We get 0 as the remainder.
Step 6: Now we will shift down the next digit 4. We can divide 4 by 4.
Step 7: When we divide 4 by 4 we get the quotient as 1.
Step 8: Now we will subtract 4 from 4. We get remainder as 0.
Step 9: There is no digit left to be divided, so quotient of division 124 / 4 = 31.
