# Difference Between Permutation and Combination?

TopPermutation can be defined as adjustment of different items and symbols in a definite sequence or particular order. In this, we take different arrangement of given number of things by taking some or all at a time. This is what permutations definition is. Like ‘o’, ‘p’, ‘q’ by putting two at a time will result in (op, po, oq, qo, pq, qp).
For letters ‘o’, ‘p’, ‘q’ by all at a time will give result as (opq, oqp, poq, pqo, opq, qpo).
Combination can be defined as collection of different Numbers of objects is known as Combination of numbers. Here this is a unordered accumulation of a unique size.
For example: - Suppose we have group of 4 different colored balls, then any 3 balls selected from it will be considered as combination, and adjustment of every combination will be taken as Permutation. This is basic difference between permutation and combination.
Now we will see formula defined for permutation and combination.
For permutation: Formula is given as: 'nPr = n (n - 1) (n - 2)……(n – r + 1) = n! / (n - r) !,
here, values of ‘n’ and ‘r’ denotes non - negative integers, also value of ‘r’ is less than equals to ‘n’.
‘r’ represents size of each permutation, ‘n’ represents size of Set, ‘!’ represents factorial operator.
For combination:- Formula for combination is given as:
Combination = nCr = npr / r!, here value of ‘n’ and ‘r’ are non - negative integers and also value of ‘r’ is less than equals to ‘n’.
'r’ is the size of each combination, ‘n’ is the size of set and ‘!’ is factorial operator. This is all about permutation and combination.
