What is Triangle?

TopTriangle is one of the basic shapes in the Geometry. Here we will discuss what is triangle. Triangle is basically a Polygon with three corners and three sides. In triangle we call corners as vertices and sides as edges of triangle. Edges are line segments which are made by two vertices. For Example: Assume that vertices of triangle are A, B and C then we can represent a triangle as ∆ABC. Symbol ∆ is used to denote a triangle. These three points or vertices make a unique triangle in plane.

We can classify Triangles in two categories:
· By length of sides
· By internal angles

On basis of sides we can further classify triangles. Triangle which has all three sides of equal length then triangle is called as Isosceles Triangle. If triangle has two sides of equal length then triangle will be called as isosceles triangle and if triangle has all three sides of different lengths then triangle will be named as Scalene Triangle.

We can classify triangles according to its internal angles. If a triangle has one interior angle equals to 90 degree angle then it will be called as Right Triangle. Side which is just opposite to 90 degree angle is called hypotenuse which is the longest side of right triangle.

If a triangle does not contain 90 degree angle then triangle will be called as oblique triangle. If all angles in triangle are less than 90 degree then triangle will be called as Acute Triangle and if triangle has one angle greater than 90 degree then triangle will be called as Obtuse Angle.
