A number can be taken as a mathematical object which we generally use for counting and measurement purposes in different areas. Numbers are taken as input in different procedures of mathematical operations and their output produced on the other side is also a number.

Numbers are classified into many Sets called number system. Some of the common Types of Numbers are Natural Numbers, whole numbers, integer, rational numbers, real numbers, complex numbers, even numbers, odd Numbers, prime numbers and composite numbers. All these numbers can be arranged either in increasing order or in decreasing order.

The order of numbers arranged in which numbers are in increasing arrangement is known as ascending order and order of numbers in which numbers are in decreasing arrangement then order of number is known as descending order.

In other words if numbers are arranged from lowest to greatest number then order is known as ascending order. The order of numbers from greatest to the lowest number is known as descending order of numbers. The ascending and Descending Numbers can be further explained by an example:

Example:
Arrange the numbers 63, 42, 73, 16, 44, 35 in ascending and descending order.

63 = 6 * 6 * 6 = 216
42 = 4 * 4 = 16
73 = 7 * 7 * 7 = 343
16 = 1 * 1 * 1 * 1 * 1 * 1 = 1
44 = 4 * 4 * 4 * 4 = 256
35 = 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 = 243

216, 16, 343, 1, 256, 243

Then according to the definition of ascending order and descending order we can write these number as,
Ascending order: 1, 16, 216, 243, 256, 343
Descending order: 343, 256, 243, 216, 16, 1

This is how we can arrange numbers in different ways.

In other words we can say that smallest number is placed first, after that we place second smallest number which is just greater than previous number and so on until all numbers are sorted in ascending order.

In ascending order greatest number is placed at last Position of ordered list. Ascending order is basically used to sort an unordered list of numbers which helps in searching a number from the list. The below given steps helps to understand ascending order of numbers better.
  1. First we will scan unordered list for smallest number and place it at first position.
  2. Now again scan the list for second smallest number in the list and place it at second position in the list.
  3. Now find the third smallest number in the list and place it at third position.
  4. Repeat the above procedure for all numbers in the list.
  5. After this procedure we will get the ordered list which will be in ascending order.

Example:
Arrange the numbers 5, 0, 8, 9, 4, 18, 80, 3 in ascending order.
Step 1: First we will scan unordered list for smallest number and place it at first position. So, the first position is occupied by 0.
Step 2: Now again scan the list for second smallest number in the list and place it at second position in the list. So, the second position is occupied by 3 and the order becomes 0, 3.
Step 3: Now find the third smallest number in the list and place it at third position. So, the third position is occupied by 4 and the order becomes 0, 3, 4.
Step 4: Repeat the above procedure for all numbers in the list.
Step 5: After this procedure we will get the ordered list which will be in ascending order. The order becomes 0, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 18, 80.

If we are given list of descending numbers then we can find list of ascending numbers by reversing the order of numbers in list of Descending Numbers. This is all about ascending numbers.
