how to divide rational numbers?

TopRational numbers are represented in form of ratio. We can represent a rational number by fraction number. We write a fraction number in form of p / q. Here 'p' is numerator and 'q' is denominator. For example: We will call 1 / 5 as one fifth part of a number. We can perform arithmetic operations on Rational Numbers like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Now let us see how to divide rational numbers.

For Division of Rational Numbers we need to follow steps shown below:
Step 1: First of all we need two rational numbers.

Step 2: Here we have to divide first rational number by other rational number. For this we will reverse the second rational number. We will replace the numerator by denominator and denominator by numerator.

Step 3: Now we will multiply the first rational number by reversed rational number.

Step 4: Multiply both numerators and denominators with each other.

Step 5: Now simplify the rational number.

Let us take an example to understand the process of rational number division. Assume that we have to divide 2 / 4 by 2 / 3. So now we will write them as:
(2 / 4) / (2 / 3).

Reverse the second rational number 2 / 3 as 3 / 2. Now the new rational number is 3 / 2. Multiply the first rational number with this new rational number like:
2 / 4 * 3 / 2.

We will multiply numerator 2 and 3 and denominators 4 and 2. After the multiplication we will get a new rational number 6 / 8.
Simplify this new rational number, we get 6 / 8 = 3 / 4.
