Rules for Converting Fractions:
  1. Convert fraction value from the improper fraction to the mixed fraction
  2. Check if the fraction value is less than $\frac{1}{2}$. Then, keep the whole number value same and it will be the round off value.
  3. Check if the fraction value is greater than $\frac{1}{2}$. Then, add 1 in the whole number and drop the fraction number. That will be the result value.

Given below are some of the examples in rounding fractions to the nearest whole number.

Example 1:

Find the round off value of $\frac{7}{2}$

Solution:

First, convert it into mixed fraction which is $3$$\frac{1}{2}$

Now, $\frac{1}{2}$ is equal to $\frac{1}{2}$.

So, the result will be 3.

Example 2:

Find the round off value of $\frac{8}{3}$.

Solution:

Converting to mixed fraction, we get $2$$\frac{2}{3}$

Here, $\frac{2}{3}$ < $\frac{1}{2}$

4 = 4
So, the result will be 2.

Example 3:

Find the round off value of $4$$\frac{2}{5}$.

Solution:

4 < 5
